Breaking Free : How to Deal With an Ex That Won’t Let Go
Sometimes, breakups don’t go as planned. One person moves on. The other? Not so much. If your ex can’t seem to let go, it’s time to take action. This isn’t about drama. It’s about finding peace for yourself.
Step 1: Understand Why They’re Holding On
Breakups are tough.
People process them differently. Your ex may be clinging for reasons that have nothing to do with you. Maybe they’re lonely. Maybe they’re struggling with change.
Example:
Stacy broke up with Mike three months ago. Yet, Mike keeps texting her every night. He says things like, “I can’t sleep without talking to you.” Mike isn’t just missing Stacy. He’s missing the routine.
A study by Psychology Today found that 60% of people hold onto exes because of unresolved emotions.
This doesn’t mean you’re responsible. But it helps to understand the “why.”
Step 2: Limit Communication
Less is more here. If they keep reaching out, don’t encourage it. A simple “I need space right now” can do wonders.
Example Dialogue:
Ex: “Can we just talk for a second?”
You: “I think it’s better if we don’t right now. I need some space.”
