Big Day or Real Life? : Do Women Want the Wedding but Not the Marriage?
When I think about weddings, I picture the whole thing: the dress, the vows, the big dance. But here’s the question that comes up — do women want the wedding but not the marriage? It’s a question I’ve thought about a lot, and it’s probably crossed your mind, too.
There’s no denying that weddings are magical. The photos, the promises, the celebration. But let’s pause for a second.
Does that same spark and excitement carry over into marriage?
Or is it more about the thrill of the big day?
The Dream of the Wedding Day
I think that every woman, growing up, has this image of their perfect wedding — most of them do. The decorations, the colors, the romantic atmosphere. It’s something society has promoted in every way possible.
Movies, TV shows, even fairy-tales we read as kids paint the wedding as the big “happily ever after.”
But rarely do we see much about the “forever after” part.
Think about how much money and time people pour into planning weddings.
The average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is around $30,000.
Thirty grand for one day.
